Nuffield Hospitals is the largest not-for-profit independent healthcare provider in the UK with 40 hospitals in England and Scotland . • As an organisation, Nuffield Hospitals is adapting to a rapidly changing healthcare market and is the only independent hospital group that is not-for-profit. This means that it is able to reinvest any surplus in patient services, including a stream of innovations designed to facilitate access and improve patients' experiences. • Nuffield Hospitals provides an extensive range of healthcare services including surgical procedures, for example hip and knee replacements, varicose vein surgery and hernia surgery. In addition to our core services a number of the hospitals in the group offer specialist services such as assisted conception, eye laser surgery, cancer services, neurosurgery, bariatric services and cardiology. • In 2005 Nuffield Hospitals treated approximately 700,000 patients and carried out approximately 220,000 surgical procedures in its hospitals. • The organisation acquired Vanguard Healthcare Solutions in October 2004. With a dozen £1million state-of-the-art mobile operating theatres, three eight bed recovery wards, and two mobile outpatient units, the acquisition of Vanguard Healthcare allows Nuffield Hospitals to provide flexible and versatile healthcare solutions. • In February 2005, Nuffield Hospitals acquired Sona Group Ltd. This enabled the creation of a new operations division called Nuffield Proactive Health which combined the activities of Sona with Nuffield's existing health screening and physiotherapy services. Nuffield Proactive Health is the first UK based company to offer corporations a single point of access to a seamless spectrum of health, wellbeing and fitness services underpinned by the highest standards of medical care and expertise, • The organisations head office is at: Nuffield House, 1-4 The Crescent, Surbiton, Surrey , KT6 4BN . ONE IN SIX PEOPLE IN YORKSHIRE AND HUMBER REGION CONSIDERING COSMETIC SURGERY Almost 800,000 people in the Yorkshire and Humber region are considering having cosmetic surgery according to new research* published today by the Nuffield Hospital Leeds. Nationally 6.8 million are considering some form of cosmetic treatment. The new findings follow a report** published last month which showed that, across the UK , almost 700,000 people will have a cosmetic procedure this year. That's a 40 per cent increase on the number of procedures performed in 2005. Cosmetic surgery is becoming more and more popular which is why on Thursday 5th October the Nuffield Hospital Leeds held an open day so people could see at first hand what techniques are on offer and meet the consultants who perform the surgery. These open days are very popular and will be repeated next year. Please leave your name and number with my secretary, Lisa Harris, if you would like to be contacted nearer the time. In addition we frequently provide dedicated cosmetic surgery group discussions. As my Specialty is Breast Surgery, I provide the focus colely on Cosmetic Breast Surgery. If a group of 10or more patients would like me to provide a general presentation on cosmetic breast surgery or even more specifically on a single cosmetic breast operation, I am happy to do so, by arrangement. According the Nuffield Hospitals research: - 389,000 people in the region are interested in procedures to remove body fat
- 285,000 women are interested in breast reduction or augmentation
- 182,000 people want to remove skin blemishes
- 150,000 are interested in facial rejuvenation
- and 103,000 want their nose realigned
And gone are the days when cosmetic surgery was the exclusive preserve of women. According to the Nuffield Hospitals research 11 per cent of men either have, or are, considering cosmetic surgery; that's around 40 per cent of the proportion of women (27 per cent). The next cosmetic surgery evening is on October 5th 2006, starting at 18.30. Please contact my secretary if you would like to reserve a place. "Cosmetic surgery is not something to be entered into lightly," said Mike Flatley, General Manager of the Nuffield Hospital Leeds. "Shows like Ten Years Younger and Extreme Makeover have undoubtedly stimulated interest in cosmetic procedures but they do sometimes give an unrealistic impression of the process, so it's important that anyone considering a procedure understands the whole picture." Please remember that Mr Turton has very strong commitments to his specialised practice within the NHS. This will include his breast and reconstructive breast surgery practice as well as periodic rostered on-call for emergency work. Mr Turton abides by the code of ethical practice in this respect. It is important therefore to check availability with Mr Turton's secretary (at either Spire Leeds or the Leeds Nuffield) in advance to confirm clinic dates and times. It is important to bring information on any medications or herbal preparations that you are taking. * Research conducted amongst 1, 013 people on August 12 th and 13 th 2006 ** Mintel, July 2006 |
