He is currently appointed as a consultant colorectal & laparoscopic surgeon at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, where he treats a wide range of disorders affecting the small intestine, colon and rectum. These include colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, haemorrhoids, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, groin and abdominal hernia and pilonidal sinus disease. Jim completed his specialist training in colorectal surgery in the Wessex. He worked with Professor Bill Heald at Basingstoke where he learned complex pelvic surgery and rectal cancer surgery. His specialist colorectal training included the UK National Laparoscopic Fellowship in 2007, where he received tuition from Prof Roger Motson at Colchester in advanced laparoscopic pelvic surgery. Later on he was awarded a travelling clinical fellowship at Mayo Clinic Rochester (US) to work with Prof Heidi Nelson. Jim’s research included analysing the risks for abdominal wound dehiscence. He was awarded masters degree from Cardiff University for his work on wound healing and tissue repair. He has performed over 200 laparoscopic colorectal resections following a standardised technique. His present research interests include clinical research in laparoscopic colorectal surgery, training in laparoscopic surgery and functional outcomes after laparoscopic rectal cancer surgery.
